Our Counselors

Nancy Asher is a Licensed Professional Counselor, Registered Play Therapist, Certified Synergetic Play Therapist, National Certified Counselor, and a Certified School Counselor. She is trained in Animal Assisted Counseling, with her poodle, Sofie, and in EMDR.

She has 28 years of experience as an elementary school teacher and school counselor. In addition, she has clinical experience working with children, couples, and individuals.

She is a graduate of the University of Texas at San Antonio with a Bachelor of Arts in Education, an Early Childhood Endorsement, and a Master of Arts in Counseling. She is a member of The Association for Play Therapy and the American Counseling Association.

Nancy works with clients from a Neuroscience perspective to help them gain new insights and develop strategies that will transform their life. She uses multiple interventions, including the therapeutic aspects of sand, art, and play, to address emotional, behavioral, and relational issues. She offers a safe, nurturing environment that encourages healing, change, and growth. Living in San Antonio, Texas, she is married and has two children. She loves the outdoors and enjoys camping, and the beach.

Margaret Echavarria is a Licensed Professional Counselor and Registered Play Therapist. She has 28 years of experience in the public school system as a Special Education teacher and elementary school counselor. Margaret is a graduate of the University of the Incarnate Word with a Bachelor of Arts in Education and a Special Education endorsement. She also holds a Master of Arts Degree in Education from the University of Texas at San Antonio.

Margaret has extensive training in Child-Centered Play Therapy from the Center for Play Therapy at University of North Texas. She has experience and training in a variety of areas including grief-related therapy from the Children’s Bereavement Center, eating disorders, as well as emotional, behavioral, and relational issues.

The foundation of her practice revolves around Garry Landreth’s philosophy of the importance of developing a safe and secure relationship with her clients in order to help them fully express and explore their feelings, thoughts, experiences, and behaviors, through play and other therapeutic interventions. Margaret’s goal is to help all of her clients reach their optimal level of growth and development in a comfortable and nurturing environment.

Margaret lives in San Antonio, Texas. She is married and has two young adult children. She also has a poodle named Gypsy who is a bit too old to join Sofie in the counseling arena!
